What needs urgent attention on a roof?

Water coming through a ceiling needs attention, as do slates or ridge tiles blown from the roof. A chimney stack or pot that looks unsafe, lead peeled back from a junction, a flat roof covering lifted at the edge, or gutters pulled away from the building can also make a problem urgent. These faults may expose the home to more rain or leave loose materials above paths, gardens or neighbouring ground.

Not every mark or change needs to be treated as an emergency. A single stained tile noticed from the ground, with no water entering and nothing loose, can usually be discussed through the normal quotation process. Moss by itself is also not a reason for an urgent visit. If you are unsure which situation you have, describe what has changed and whether any water or material is moving.

How to contact us about an urgent problem

For urgent or emergency roof repairs, call us on 07508 571291 during our opening hours. Our hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 12:00pm.

If you write in, choose “Emergency Repair” in the quote form. Add the property address, explain what you can see from the ground and attach or offer a photo taken safely. Outside those times, send the same details and photos through our contact page and we pick them up when we are next open.

Stay off the roof. For more detailed safety information, use our guides to a storm-damaged roof and finding the cause of a roof leak.

What happens when we inspect urgent damage?

We inspect the roof covering and the details connected to the problem. That can mean looking beyond the obvious gap to the ridge, valley, chimney lead, flat roof edge or roofline nearby. Indoors, a wet mark does not always sit directly beneath the place where rain entered, so we trace the route of the water rather than assuming the stain identifies the fault.

We explain what we found in plain language and separate the work that is urgent from anything that can be watched. You receive a clear written quote before the repair. Roofing depends on safe conditions, so work is planned for the first safe weather window; wind and rain can stop roof work. When the agreed work is complete, the site is left tidy.

Urgent roof faults we repair

Slipped or missing slates can leave the layer below exposed to rain. We inspect the affected course and the condition of the nearby slate and fixings before setting out the repair.

Loose or lifted ridge tiles sit on the most exposed lines of a pitched roof. We check the tile, its bedding or fixing and the roof immediately below it.

Split or blocked roof valleys matter because the channel carries water from two slopes. The lining, surrounding covering and any obstruction all need to be considered together.

Chimney and lead flashing damage can let wind-driven rain through a vulnerable junction. We inspect both the stack and the lead before recommending the right work.

Flat roof splits and lifted edges can expose the deck beneath. We look at the surface, edges and drainage route to understand whether the fault is local or more widespread.

Gutters and fascias pulled away can spill water onto walls and leave sections insecure. We check the roof edge as well as the displaced roofline part.

When urgent damage reveals a larger roofing job

Sometimes the visible fault is isolated and a focused repair is sensible. In other cases, an inspection finds failed fixings across a wider area or a covering that is breaking up. We will say honestly whether another repair makes sense or whether a roof replacement is worth considering.

The decision depends on the actual condition and scope, not a standard figure. Our roof repair cost guide explains the factors that shape a quotation without presenting a price before the roof has been seen.

Questions about emergency roof repairs

Do you offer a 24-hour emergency roofing service?

No; our hours are Monday to Friday 7:30am to 6:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 12:00pm. Outside those times, send details and photos through the contact form and we pick them up when we are next open.

Is a leaking roof always an emergency?

A steady drip or water near electrics needs a call now; an old dry stain can be booked as a normal repair.

What should I tell you when I ring about an urgent roof problem?

Tell us the address, roof type if known, where the water or damage shows, when it started, and include a photo taken safely from the ground.

Will you repair the roof in bad weather?

Only when it is safe; wet and windy conditions can delay work, so we plan for the first safe opportunity.

Do you cover Edinburgh, Perth and Dundee for urgent repairs?

Yes, from Cardenden, within the 50 miles we travel.

Tell us what has happened
