Roof Repairs in Dundee

Victorian working-class housing spread rapidly during Dundee's industrial expansion. On a surviving older building, inspect the slate covering, its fixings and adjoining valleys or chimney lead together. Do not presume that everything remains original: re-roofing, patch repairs and changes to neighbouring structures may have altered the route water takes.

The first task is to connect the indoor symptom with evidence outside. A mark beside a chimney could involve pointing, flaunching, flashing or a fault further up the slope. Record when it appears and whether wind direction affects it. This is more useful than assuming every house in Blackness or Hilltown needs the same slate repair.

We check covering, ridges, valleys and lead around stacks or dormers, and examine the loft where access is possible. Water can travel before it becomes visible, so a stain locates the symptom rather than necessarily identifying the failed detail.

If visible materials or chimney details are to change, establish the property's status and required permissions before the repair specification is agreed. Where the building has a dormer or extension with a flat roof, examine perimeter joints, outlets and adjoining walls along with the covering. A split or blister may be repairable, but softened decking or water trapped below the surface changes the scope.
