A firm based just across the water
Rowan Roofing is a family-run firm based at 46 Station Road in Cardenden, Fife. We have traded for 16 years, and the family brings over 50 years of roofing experience between us. Falkirk is comfortably inside the range we cover, and you deal directly with the people who do the work, from the first visit to the final tidy-up.
For the right job we travel up to 50 miles, so tell us your address when you get in touch and we will confirm we can visit before anything is arranged.
Industrial history, listed details and permissions
The High Street and the category A Falkirk Steeple, built in 1814, provide a different reference point from the town's industrial and canal history. The category B Tattie Kirk dates from 1804. These landmarks demonstrate that historic buildings survive, but they do not establish the age, material or listed status of your house. A survey should identify what is actually on the roof and which details should be retained.
Falkirk Council handles planning and building standards here, not Stirling Council. For a listed property, establish whether consent is needed for replacement slate, leadwork or a chimney alteration before ordering materials. Matching an existing covering may be important, but the appropriate specification and permissions depend on the building. The main postcode districts are FK1 and FK2; include your full address so both the inspection and any council enquiry relate to the correct property.
Repair decisions from floodplain to higher ground
The River Carron floodplain lies north of the town and raised-beach features occur north of the centre. East Burn and West Burn run through Falkirk. Higher ground has glacial till and boulder clay, while lower areas include sandy soils and loams. These are geographical differences, not a diagnosis of subsidence, damp or roof failure at an individual address.
At a roof inspection, height, orientation and nearby shelter help explain which junctions need closer attention. Water beneath a covering must still be traced to its entry point: a flashing defect, slipped covering or blocked outlet cannot be identified from terrain alone. Our roof repairs page explains diagnosis and written repair scopes without assuming a fault from the area name.
New and replacement roofs
New roofs are the work we specialise in. When a covering has reached the end of its life, we strip it, check the timbers and underlay, and rebuild the roof with the ridges, flashings and gutters done properly. If sound slates can be reused, we will say so; if not, we explain the options honestly. See our new roofs page for how a full job runs.
Flat roofing, guttering and chimneys
Flat roofs on extensions and garages are a frequent source of leaks, and we repair or renew them depending on the state of the deck. Gutters, fascias and soffits keep water off walls and out of the roof edge, and chimney stacks need their pointing, flaunching and lead kept in order. Our flat roofing and guttering and roofline pages explain this work in more depth.
Preparing for the October–March storm season
Falkirk's prevailing winds are south-westerly, and Atlantic windstorms can occur from October to March. Before unsettled weather, note any loose-looking ridges or lifted lead from a safe ground-level position. After a storm, keep people away from fallen coverings and anything still insecure overhead. This seasonal context does not mean every roof has storm damage or establish a response time.
For active ingress, describe when it started and whether wind direction changes the leak. Our emergency roof repairs page explains contact during working hours and what to send through the form outside them. Photographs are useful only when they can be taken without climbing or standing beneath loose materials.
Neighbouring areas
We also cover nearby Stirling and Alloa. See our pages for roofers in Stirling and roofers in Alloa for local detail on those towns.

Falkirk roofing questions
Is Falkirk Council responsible for roofing permissions in FK1 and FK2?
Yes, Falkirk Council is the planning and building standards authority for the town. Check the particular property's status and proposed work; being historically in Stirlingshire does not place it under Stirling Council.
What should I check before Falkirk's winter windstorms?
From the ground, look for displaced coverings, loose ridge material and lifted flashings. Atlantic windstorms can occur between October and March; an inspection should address existing defects rather than assume damage from the season alone.
Does living near the Carron floodplain explain a roof leak?
Not by itself. Terrain is part of the setting, but the roof covering, drainage and junctions need investigation. Record when water enters so the inspection can separate roof ingress from other moisture problems.
Can a roof near Falkirk Steeple be changed without consent?
Proximity to a listed landmark is not enough to answer. Ask Falkirk Council about your own building's listed or conservation status and the proposed changes before work begins.
How is a Falkirk roofing quote arranged?
Send your full address and a description of the work or call 07508 571291. We inspect and confirm the proposed scope in writing before you agree to a start.
